Voluntary work and support

Plan international

We currently sponsor two girls via Plan Deutschland: Gladys in Kenya, and Gloria in Togo. We keep up regular personal contact with both girls and their families via letter and email, and in 2014 we visited Glady and her family in the Kilifi region of Kenya (see visiting Gladys).

Plan International has played an important part in our lives for many years as we previously sponsored and communicated with Nagamani in India until she was 18 years old and she was able to go and study – a direct consequence of the support she received via Plan.

Past voluntary work for Plan Deutschland includes translating yearly reports and letters.

Galgos

Galgos are Spanish greyhounds who, because of their incredible speed and manoeuvrability are bred for hunting hares. Unfortunately, hunters in Spain treat these elegant dogs like cheap disposable tools and every year at the end of the hunting season thousands are dumped (or much worse) when they are considered to be too slow, too fast, or too old (from the age of 3). Galgo, Louie, has lived peacefully with us and our cat since December 2015. In February 2018 we adopted Ivy from the Tierherberge Donzdorf. Ivy is a loving young galga who wears her heart on her sleeve. We can no longer imagine a life without one or more of these graceful animals.

Active supporter of several galgo rescue organisations in Spain and Germany.
